I traveled with my mother to have a revision to my 19 year old gastric bypass. At my highest weight, I was 388 pounds. With the previous gastric bypass, I lost around 160-170 pounds, but in the last few years, I had been regaining. I was at 277 pounds before my revision. It has been 5 weeks since the revision, and I am down 38 pounds so far. My incisions have healed very well, and overall, I am doing great. My energy level is still rather low at the moment, but that is to be expected as my daily calorie average is currently around 600 per day.

I am a registered nurse; so, I was very observant of of all of the care/procedures that were provided. Be mindful...everything is NOT like it is here in the states. BUT, as a medical professional, I can tell you, it IS good care. There was nothing that made me uneasy in any way. I has a terrible bout of nausea/vomiting the night of my surgery, but, the nurses were there and quickly gave me nausea medicine. I, personally had VERY LITTLE pain with the surgery. They were giving me scheduled pain medication. I never once had to request extra pain medication. I am not saying that it was pain free. I am saying that it was manageable pain and was less than I expected. Dr. Almanza's English is not terrific, but he did come and see me the morning after surgery and explained how my surgery had gone and what to expect going forward. His nurse, whose English is better, helped a bit with translation. I was very much at ease.

I am a 51 year old woman and traveled with my 69 year old mother. As two women travelling alone, we never felt unsafe in any way. The hotel was nice and secure. The desk staff don't speak much English, but the two bellmen that we had contact with during our stay were awesome. They looked after Mom while I spent the night in the hospital. My surgery took a bit longer than anticipated; so, Mom did not want to go back to the hotel when the other family members were driven back. She wanted to stay with me until I woke up a little and she could see how I was doing. That was not a problem, either. My nurse, Juan, called Mom an Uber and even walked her out of the hospital to make certain that she got into the car safely, as it was already dark when she left.

A lot of people seem shocked that I wentto Mexico for surgery, but Mom and I keep telling people that it is wonderful. It was a great experience. I am doing well. I am happy that I did this, and I would do it again!
