The banding procedure is not well known to reduce production of the hunger hormone known as Ghrelin. Rather it works by reducing your appetite, so you lose your appetite when you realize you cannot eat so fast and need to slow down. The result is a patient who is pretty much forced to consciously think about what they're eating and how fast they're eating it, and hopefully make good choices. The devices have debatable success rates. Some people like it and have success with it, but some patients do return to have it removed, and often opt for the gastric sleeve instead.
