"Bull's Eye"

(Story inspired by actual people, places, and events. The caption below says the bull that should have faced The Great Joselito was put to sleep due to a chipped horn, thus sealing Joselito's fate. The replacement bull that ended his life at Talavera De La Reina was later released to the wild.)

Act I: Enslavement

El Toro Bravo ran free across the peninsula
Amongst the bison and deer in Iberia
The spaniards captured him, and 4,000 blood brothers
He was my father

Act II: The Ganderia

On the ganderia I was born
To become like El Toro big and strong
They marked me on my side
At the age of two I learned of his legacy
Two horsemen began to mock me
They knocked me down with blunt-tipped lances, and told me of an epic battle
"He would rather die fighting than flee, charging bravely against mortal chances;
He fell to the sword of Joselito"
I picked myself up in uncontrollable anger, and rushed towards the rider upon his steed
They recorded my name and number and smiled for in two years they said it would be my turn to bleed
In La Fiesta Brava

Act III: Enter The Plaza

I have waited for that moment, doing as they've trained me; to attack everything that moves
Learning the dance of death, so that I can avenge my father with my horns, mind, and hooves
Now I enter the Plaza De Toros at Talavera De La Reina through the door of fright
Joselito's image is burned into my spirit, and I will take his soul tonight
The trumpet blows and the footmen draw me out, I follow their capes and show no weakness
The horsemen appear at both sides of the arena, and try to provoke me
I wait for them and disrupt their plan to lance me
A rider angered commits
As I charge his horses's hind-quarter, he's dismounted, and travels my fatal thrust
Quickly I rush the remaining picadore headlong, his horse's legs removed, he befalls all it's weight
The banderillero fear too greatly to face me, as the crowd calls for Joselito

Act IV: Their Eyes Meet

I wait in the corridor of death as he appears in his suit of lights
He tosses his hat over head, as it lands upended he shivers at this omen
He waves his red muleta expecting me to rush, but I stand strong
He has received his challenge to meet me in the corridor
I step back as his approach draws nearer, he is pleased
His steps grow softer as the walls envelope him
Silence dims the arena

Act V: Bullfight!

I charge towards his cape
He waves wildly as I draw nearer seeking the target
I resist his banner, my aim is true, and he feels the gore in his stomach
His eyes grow wide as I paint this art with human blood
I parade Joselito around the perimeter, my father has been avenged

Act VI: The Circle Closes

The spaniards will now release me to the land where it began, to live in peace
"The bullfights cannot be stopped without facing grave consequences"
I am son of El Toro Bravo
